Home Security - How do you protect your house? |
| |
| A friend of mine woke up at 5 in the morning because she heard some noises on their second floor deck. At first she thought it was racoons or squirrels but then she decided to check. When she opened the door to the deck she came face to face with a young man who was in the process of ripping up the screen door. (Lucky there was one). She quickly closed the door, and woke her husband who called the police. The young man cowered in a corner of the deck. He did not want to jump down two floors and they still can't figure out how he got up there in the first place. The young man was arrested and it turned out he was a drug addict. Some people here have motion sensors in the house, and motion sensor lights outside close to doors and windows, some people have latches on all their doors and windows, some people have monitored Alarm Systems and some people have dogs. So how do you protect your home?

| | My house is in a remote rural location where the discharging of firearms is legal. Hence, both my wife and myself are proficient with firearms and occaisionally practice in the back yard. We also have deadbolts on the doors, a watch dog, motion detector lights around the house and out buildings, and a motion detector alarm at the gate to the yard which is fenced all the way around. So, if you come to visit, call first! | | | | | | |

| | We have outdoor floodlights, deadbolts, locks on all doors and windows, and a large dog (although it's the cat you -really- have to look out for!). Both my husband and I shoot, so there is always a firearm accessible (to us but not the kids), and we have shot in defense of our property when someone was dumb enough to try to get into our vehicles at four in the morning. That's the only time anyone has ever tried anything in the ten years my husband has lived here, but it was nice to be prepared. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Linda: I wouldn't jump two floors either. When we lived in a house we had a chain lander than when down 3 floors. We live in an Apt. and have two locks and a chain lock. Then we have a rubber wedge that goes under our front door, (we don't have a back door). Have a great day. Lyla | | | | | | |
