"Innocent until proven Guilty" or is it really the other way around?

I think that once you have been accused of something it's a little harder to make someone beleive that you didn't do as opposed to doing it. Supposedly your innocent until proven guilty, if that's the case then why do so many people have to pay so much money to a defense attorney?
