Moms, did you love your Boppy?  email this discussion to a friend?

I'm curious, because I've heard that the boppy pillow is supposed to make postitioning the baby easier. Did you use a boppy, and is it really worth the $35? I mean, it makes sense the way it seems to fit around the body, but wouldn't a regular pillow do as well? I'm planning on breastfeeding (just as soon as little man decides to come out!) and I want to make it as easy as possible because I've heard it's not as intuitive as you might think and I want to have all my tools ready! Thanks in advance!

I didn't get to use it for breastfeeding (we didn't bf but I pumped due to problems) but it came in handy for my baby. When I was pumping, he always wanted to be held. That would have been tricky, so I situated him inside the boppy so it was like he was being held. When he got older, I'd use it for tummy time. After that, it helped him sit up a little bit. I always see Boppy pillows on Craigslist or at yard sales, so you might want to check that out before you drop $35.

I love the boppy that I used for my daughter and now am expecting am gonna buy a new one again. My daughter love it when she was little. I end up buying two boppys because our miniature daschund loved it so much that. His little body fits on it and when I took the baby out, he will be the one to get in. So, I have to find one for him too and until now, he still got it. It is his favorite place to nap.

I found the boppy very hard to use, although I havent met another person who has agreed with me! I just couldnt get it positioned right, and he didnt stay on it. I just sat in a recliner with arm rests, put my knee on the army rest and put my elbow on my leg. It was so comfortable for me, and much more natural.

But, everyone else I talk to says they loved theirs.

I used mine more for the first one than for the second. I loved it, it worked pretty well. YOu will most likely have to stuff a pillow or something under it, to get it high enough, but its better than killing your arms trying to hold the baby while you nurse. It's not so bad if you have a smaller baby, as it's not as hard to hold them while they nurse, but my first was large, (which is why I used it so much)but my second was almost 2 pounds lighter (he was 9 pounds), so I didn't really start using it for a while. It's great for when they are learnign to sit up too, you just put it around them, and you don't have to worry about them falling over too much. ITs great for belly time before that too. So, yes, they can be expensive, but it's worth it. YOu can find them at Target for 20.00 or so (I just bought one for my sister) but make sure you get a cover, because they'll spit up, and poop on it as soon as you get it home. (: You could always look for one at a consignment shop and buy a cover for it, that way you aren't shelling out alot of money for it. Congrats on the baby! (:

I personally always used a pillow or even 2. I wouldn't go out and purchase this item until you know that you will be nursing for awhile.

The reason that I say to hold off is for many, many reasons breastfeeding may not work. While I hope that you get to enjoy this wonderful experience, some mothers are unable to continue for a length of time. So my advise is to hold off on this purchase until a few weeks after birth. In the beginning a regular bed pillow will work just fine. Then if after a few weeks everything is going well nursing your little one then if you find that you need a Boppy go out and get one.

This of course is my 2 cents worth.

Walmart has one of those types of pillows and they're about $23 instead. They sell pretty good. Whether they're really that useful I can't personally say. :(

Wishing you all the best :)

I'm fat, so no, it didn't work well for me at all. It was too small and uncomfortable for me, and my son, when he was born, was over 10 pounds, and he was too big to hold in the front, with that huge pillow with my huge boobs. I held him in a football hold and I used a much flatter pillow to help angle him a bit. My husband, however, loved the boppy. He would put it in his lap while sitting in a chair at the computer and then use it to support our son in his lap. We used it ALL the time for the baby to lay on the floor somewhat upright too and on his belly. I think that it was worth the money that we spent on it, and we kept it so that when we do have another, we don't have to buy it again.

Serialmommy, I have a friend whom is overweight and said the same thing. she said it just didn't fit her. I had a large child as well, (10 pounds 14 ounces) and found it wasn't as useful with him as it was my second (9 pounds even) as far as nursing, but it's invaluable when they are first learning how to sit up. My hubby enjoy it as well, as he could put it on his lap and put the baby on it.
