Does anyone else love Stargate: SG-1 as much as I do? |
I didn't start watching the show at first. I don't watch much tv. But, one day I saw the DVD for the first few episodes of the first season. I was instantly hooked. I soon had all the DVDs for the first two seasons. After that I used my membership with Blockbuster to get them. I haven't decided whether to buy them or not. I have finished Season 8, and am now working on Stargate Atlantis. My kids are just as hooked as I am. They anxiously await the next dvd.
What is everyone's favorite episode? I can't remember the name, but my favorite episode was when Jack and T'ielq got stuck in the time-loop.

kamalila (133) | 3 years ago | That is cool! Generally we do as well. The chemistry among the SG-1 crew (not just the team, but all the rest as well) is wonderful. I just got an email saying the first of Season 9 is on its way. I can't wait.

seamonkey (1542) | 3 years ago | I kinow what you mean about the whole team's chemistry. I guess you watch the extras at the back of the DVD's, too. They are always great!

kamalila (133) | 3 years ago | Yes, we do. Some of them are great. We always laugh at Pete. Every time we end up saying something like, "yup, he's a DeLouis." One thing I was bummed about was when Daniel ascended, the special features had a memorium for him. But when Dr. Frazier died, nothing. My husband really liked her. She was smart, pretty, and tough. But no special notes on her many contributions to the show (to include that the actress played a role as a scientist of one of the Asgards). What happenned, anyway? I'm afraid I don't visit fan sites much, so am curious why she was so suddenly out of the show.

2. 66jerseygirl (1965) | 3 years ago | I have been hooked on sg1 almost since the beginning. My favorite episode is is where the team got infected i think with some kind of virus and Daniel turned into sort of like a caveman.Jack had started turning and they had him locked up.I am devastated the show is ending

| |
kamalila (133) | 3 years ago | I liked that one too.
"Lucy! I'm home!" "You are apparently not yet well. You called me Lucy."
Those two had a great chemistry right from the beginning. I always love watching those two bounce off of each other.

kamalila (133) | 3 years ago | Well, I knew Jack was going to leave eventually. After all, he was pulled off of retirement to rejoin the Stargate program, which means he already had 20 years or more in the service. Add another 8 years... He's still not retired, just moved up like Hammond did.
Remember, I still haven't quite caught up. Thus far I've made it to disc 2 of season 9. Sam left? Don't tell me what happenned! I'll get there.

5. Woodpigeon (2603) | 3 years ago | I love it so much it is truly pathetic. I can't believe they ended SG1 it is like the end of an era! I hope Atlantis is going to be able to keep going on its own and that they will bring in special guests from the original group. I couldn't pick a favorite, although anything wityh O'Neill and his wisecracks were good. Do you remember the one where he was being tortured by Baal, and when Baal said his name, O'Neill quipped, "What? As in bocce?"
My relatives play bocce and I always give a silent giggle when they start talking about it.

kamalila (133) | 3 years ago | um... is bocce a Canadian game? I know Anderson is from Canada. I don't know the game, so missed the feference.

6. Vladilyich (1111) | 3 years ago | I originally watched the pilot because it was going to star John Dean Anderson (MacGuyver)...I was hooked from there. The characters in some of my novels are derived from some of the personalities in the series.

Vladilyich (1111) | 3 years ago | I write hi-tech science fiction, in the type of Asimov and Heinlein. OK for anyone 13 and up. I don't believe in gratuitous anything so that it's ok for my 16-year-old to read.
My protagonist is based on the personality of Jack O'Neill with a bit of Sam Carter thrown in for intellect. The personality of the female protagonist is based on Teryl Rothery from Stargate.

kamalila (133) | 3 years ago | Well, that's cool, though not all of Heinlein is really for the younger readers. Heinlein did write some stories that are good for young readers, like "Have Spacesuit Will Travel", but "The Memoirs of Lazarus Long" are controversial to say the least. Oh, and then there is "Stranger In A Strange Land." He does seem to have some political views that come through in his stories. "Starship Troopers" shows some of that. I got a good chuckle from the episode of SG-1 when they had to deal with those bugs sent by the Priors. At the end, when they were talking about movie night? The movie was not very much like the book, though. The animated series is much closer.
Asimov, on the other hand, did not really write anything that controversial. He wrote ABOUT controversy often enough. Actually, I like his short stories more than his novels. I've been trying to get my daughters to read some of his work. I do warn them to remember when the books were written, though.
Have you read any of the stories from James P. Hogan? I like "Inherit the Stars" best. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes true Science Fiction.
Back to Stargate. Do YOU know what happenned to Teryl Rotherty? Her character was killed rather suddenly. My husband really liked Dr. Frasier and was rather bummed by her abrupt departure from the show.
| |
Vladilyich (1111) | 3 years ago | I think Teryl is still in B.C., but hasn't doene anything since Stargate that I can find about from her fan site. Before Stargate, she was in some really BAD "B" Sci Fi movies.
| |
kamalila (133) | 3 years ago | I suppose all actors have some roles they would rather forget they ever did. Ratherty was wonderful as Doc Frasier. She was pretty, smart and tough. The Stargate program seemed to have a bit of difficulty replacing her for a while. They finally settled on Michael Shanks' wife. Her character is much like Dr. Frasier.
| |
Vladilyich (1111) | 3 years ago | She was definitely perfect for that part. The problem with using Lexa Doig, I can't get "Andromeda Ascendant" out of my head. Claudia Black is at least very different from her part in "Farscape".
Teryl has been very busy, mainly doing voicovers on children's shows and movies.
| |
Vladilyich (1111) | 3 years ago | I meant to also mention, Richard Dean Anderson is resurecting Gen. Jack O'Neill in the spinoff series about the pole, and Amanda Tapping is getting her own series, "Sanctuary".
| |
kamalila (133) | 3 years ago | I have to agree that Claudia Black's character is VERY different from her character in Farscape. Hubby thinks Vala may be a bit closer to Claudia Black's true personality.
I haven't seen Andromeda Ascension, so I don't suffer the same problem.
It's good to know Rotherty didn't just drop off the face of the planet.
I figured we'd see O'Neill occassionally, just as we see Hammond occassionally. I really like Beau Bridges as the Stargate Command CO, though. A force of nature. Hammond was more of a rock. Landry is a hurricane.

kamalila (133) | 3 years ago | Darn. Wish I could read what I was responding to. "Andromeda Ascendant". I have never seen it. Never even heard of it, actually. I really don't watch much television and don't pay attention to reviews. I spend much more time with my computer and with books. Combined, in some cases. I go to the Baen Free Library from time to time to try out an author I'm unfamiliar with. If I like what I read, I continue to buy the work of the author.
| |
Vladilyich (1111) | 3 years ago | "Andromeda" was developed by Majel Barrett (Gene Roddenberry's wife) from unused material after his death. I really reminds me of "Hercules in Space" because it stars Kevin Sorbo:) Lexa Doig plays "Andromeda -- the name of the ship and also visually as the avatar.
Some of the things Teryl Rothery has been coing recently are "Mrs. Skittles" in a children's television series, Noddy, and voiceover for a half dozen other Canadian and Japanese animated shows.
| |
kamalila (133) | 3 years ago | Oh, okay! Now I know what you're talking about. I've only seen an episode or two of that. Actually, I have disc one of season one here now. I got it through Blockbuster.com. I haven't watched it yet, though. Now I have added incentive.
