Maldives - What's the Attraction?

The Maldives is Kuoni's Top selling Holiday Destination, followed by Thailand. I can understand the attraction of Thailand, the Culture, the Beaches, the Food, and its inexpensive. But I am struggling to see why the Maldives is the most popular destination in the World. I know its the closest a person can get to being in Paradise, but wouldnt you go Crazy being on the Same Island for 2 weeks? You can walk around Most Islands in an hour and there is only so much time you can spend sunbathing before you get bored. If your not a huge fan of Diving or Watersports what else is there to do? How do people survive a week being in the Same Place day in day out (Is it a Good Book?)- Please Tell me so I can go!
