Your kitten is still very young and yes he does just want to play. He is treating you like he would treat his brothers and sisters. You can train him to stop by spraying him with a water bottle every time he bites you. However, if you give him some times, he will grow out of it.

My cat's old now, so he doesn't try to bite much anymore. Every now and then he will nip if he gets overstimulated, but there are plenty of warning signs beforehand.
When he was younger, he tried to bite more when he was playing, it is a bit of a dominance thing, too, I think.
So, when he would start getting nippy, I would squirt him with a water bottle and then switch to toys that he could scratch and bite, like balls of paper and string and catnip toys. That helped teach him that toys were what you chewed on, not Mom!. Ideally, you don't want him to bite you at all, regardless of his motivation. He will also grow out of this some as he gets older, but some training now will help speed that along.
Good Luck.

Rather than the water bottle, which will only work if youve got it on hand immediately upon being bitten - I prefer the finger-in-mouth training.
When the young cat bites you, take whatever body part it is, and shove it in further. That means, if he bites the side of your hand, apply pressure by pushing the hand further into the cat's mouth.
This will cause momentary discomfort, and the cat will let go and run away. (Hopefully.) This is the correct response.
If they continue biting, you must be more firm, and cry out when they bite you. When they know they are hurting you, they will let go. You must make the step of making them aware that what they are doing is wrong.

The above method is used in both dogs and cats by trainers. If implemented early on, it will result in a completely non-biting cat.
All my cats have been trained this way, however, I have two who were acquired too late to completely wean them of it. Neither would ever harm a guest in my house. Both are too shy to be in the same room as loud company.
