Why is a cell phone called a cell phone ?

The coverage area for our convenience is assumed to be hexagaonal in shape. That is why because of these hexagonal cells ,cell phone is called so. Scientists started wondering which shape to assume. They had chosen this hexagonal cell due to it's large effective area and also it does not contain overlapping difficulties in designing. the cell in cellphone is actually "cellular" .. may be the term has an association with a thing that works using a cell (battery) for its operation ..incidentally the mobile phone phone works on lithium cells.
