Ok guys I need all kinds of opinions on this one. I am considering I emphasize the word considering getting a dog. I'd like a small dog that I could get out and walk. Now I do have a cat but she is pretty good so I don't think there would be a problem. But what I need to hear is what kind of dog would be best. Have you had experience with small dogs? Any particular breeds you prefer? If so, why?

I think any kind of small dog is nice, I loved pekingese, and yorkshire terriers, beagles and pugs, they are all great to me.

Hi coolcatzz,
Our dog is not small, bono now is big but when he is still a puppy he is so adorable and my 3 year old son really loves to play with him when my son is still 1 year old.
They grew up together bono is now 2 yrs old and my son is 3 yrs old they are best buddy and I treat bono as my son twin brother lol!!!
Our bono is a labrador and he is a friendly and playful dog, for me they are good pets and they are one good addition to the family. Regards!

I had a Lhasa Apso, and I just absolutely loved him to pieces, he loved to be walked and was an excellent lap dog. He was very smart as well. My fiance is more particular to Rat Terriers. They are very smart, but it seems that they are very excitable and very hyper too. My Lhasa was fun and would keep himself occupied, but he was very laid back and enjoyed just laying on the couch and going for walks when we did. He didn't require much room because he was small, we had a very small back yard area and it was plenty for him to go out back and run around and play with his toys. My friend has a Shi Tzu (spelling?), and they bark alot! But she is a very good companion and she is not too excitable except when it comes to odd noises that she is not used to. Those are the only two breeds that I have had experience with that are smaller. I hope tht helps! Good luck with your search!
