My cousin's husband's brother is a little person..He is not even 4 feet tall. When I first met him my reaction was to feel sorry for him because he had to work harder for normal things for me... After getting to know him I no longer pity him.He has always been this way and the world has always been designed for larger people...this is normal for him..He just has it figured out how to do things... It's like someone born blind vs someone that was sighted then lost their sight..I have a blind friend that has told me she would not become sighted if she had the chance..she likes the world as it is..To the sighted it sounds incredable but think about it.. Any thoughts? Do you know someone that is different then the world around them? How do they compensate?

My best girlfriend's husband is a little person as well and when I first met him I used to feel sorry for him being so small but he can do a lot of things that others cannot do so the feeling left me very quickly when I noticed the amount that he could actually do.

No I don't but I have to say this is amazing, I mean how can you not want to see as such, I know it is how they where born, but they can't see the Flowers bloom in Spring, they can't see the Birds, Rabbits and I just can't imagine it, I suppose a little Person I can understand that they learn how to cope. I guess a Blind Person does but I can't imagine their little World.

My friend was born with no eye balls in the sockets so I doubt she will ever have a chance to see anyway but she hears things and smells things that go right by me..When she smells a rose she can see it in her minds eye..probably doesn't look like the rose I see but it is her reality...She feels it with her hands too...I remember when she saw my Sheilana the first time after she was born ...she felt her little face, body, hands, feet and said"OMG,she is georgous,Raydene"...So she does see..not with her eyes. xoxo

I am not really little in that sense but I am short, I just reach 5 feet. Houses were not made for short people. I cannot change a light bulb because even on a chair I am not tall enough. I can't reach the second level of kitchen cupboards and so I don't use them. I couldn't ring my girlfriend's door bell I was too short, so I had to take a book or something to ring it.

my roomie is visually impaired, she says that she'd like full sight, but accepts that she doesn't & it is uncorrectable. I worked with profoundly deaf people back in the early/mid '80's. They knew that hearing would be helpful, but it was all they knew, but even one of their cat's learned enough sign language to get fed.

I am sure your cousin brother-in-law does not asked to be born the way he was borned. It is good that he is able to accept life and make full use of it, regardless of the handicaps and how many hurdles he has to clear. It doesn't mean that he has to live life the little way. He can still make it big. Helen Keller is one of those who strive despite their handicaps. As for your blind friend, I find it a pity she will give up the chance to be sighted. In my opinion, she could take the challenge and see the world in another view, and may like it more as it is much brighter. That is the beauty of life.
