what are some sites that you can try and find someone?

i am looking for my daughters dad and dont know where to start. i know he was in lewisville texas but now i am not sure. his family is no help really and i dont want to call them and get them invovled. my daugheter is 12 and asking questions. i dont want child support or anything just to know where he is so that if she really wants to i can find him and try to set up a meeting with them. i cant afford all the fees and stuff we dont have the money for that. i just want to be able to know so that if i need to i can call him or go there. do you know of any free sites where you can try and find someone?

Sometimes simple things can be the easiest, like if you think he is that area of Texas, go to www.switchboard.com and type his name in and see if anything comes up. I believe that if happen to have his SSN you can go the SS Index and put it in and it might give you at least the state. But more than likely you have to spend a bit of money to get any information. Usually you can find basic info without having to spend a whole lot of money. If you do a web search for sites that 'find people' you will hit on a lot. I know one is peoplefinder (I think). A PI could find basic info for you also for a small fee. I did this once.
