I see some folks with a rating of 5, and others with 10, though I can't imagine how it works? Does it have anything to do with people rating your posts?

Yeah smtimes.. But it dosen't entirely depends on that.. U need to have good quality content in ur posts so as to earn a better reputation here at mylot.. U shud try to make as minimum mistakes as u can in ur posts.. Also, try to involve in other's posts to the fullest like rating them positive or giving out best responses for ur post... That really helps in improving ur ranking...

The star rating has to do with a couple of things, and most importantly the quality of the discussions you create and responses you make. If you post discussions and responses that are in violation of any rules on mylot, then you will see a reflection in your star number. Also, mylot members can rate discussions and responses (they should only be rating it in accordance with the quality of the discussion and response, and whether it is in violation of any rules). Members use the +, -, ! to rate your discussions and responses.
