What kind of a patient are you?

Having worked as a nurse for many years, I have come across different patient and family personalities. There are those who are genuinely appreciative and there are those who thinks it's the nurses job to serve them. Some patients are very understanding and some just won't accept explanation. I don't take it against them, it's just their personality. But every now and then, nurses would appreciate some love.

I think that anyone that holds a needle should be appreciated. It would be kind of stupid to put yourself in a situation by being rude to a nurse who say you had to depend on for your bedpan or god forbid your pain medication.
Some people when they are sick or hurting are not in the best of humor. These people can be crabby and I think that they can be forgiven. If I had a nurse that was a mean witch I would just ask for a new one. I believe that is a patients right. Nurses have a tough job and need to be appreciated. They really have a lot of responsibility .

LOL that was funny. Maybe I should bring a needle with me every time! In the same way that you have the right to request for another nurse if you feel your nurse is being rude, we can also request to rotate the nurse for a patient that's being unreasonable. I try to offer a smile everytime whether the patient is rude or not but I have at one point told the patient that he can't be rude to me because all I have done all day is take care of him. He apologized afterwards.

Thank you for best response. Good Luck with getting smiles from patients. I know how grouchy some people can be.
