do you leave your napkin on your chair or on the table??
I'm just wondering cos if i get up from my table briefly at a restaurant, i usually leave it on the table. But i've seen waiters who take it off the table and put it on my chair. Which do you think is right? Does it really matter??

You should leave your napkin on your seat. Leaving your napkin on the table, ESPECIALLY leaving it on your own plate, is a sign that you are finished with your meal. Another sign? The way you leave your silverware. If placed parallel on the plate, it is a sign you are done eating. If placed perpendicular (forming an "X") on the plate it means "stop! I'm not done yet!" to the waiter.
I was forced to read Ms. Manners as a child. This is some of the helpful info I gleaned from it.

I normally leave my napkin on top of the table every time I leave the restaurant.Actually I am not aware of the formality of what to do correctly about the napkin after we used it.Basically what is more important here is that we always leave the napkin in such a way the waiter could find it easily on top of the table.

Someone once said to put the napkin on the chair was to mean you were coming back (eventually) and that you enjoyed the meal. If the napkin is put on the plate, it means you were unhappy. However, I'll keep the napkin on the table (for chain resteraunts) so the bus boy won't have to find the napkin and make their job easier. I'll still put it on the plate if I'm upset with something.
