Science Fiction - Fantasy artists | | | | Does any of you fantasy (elves, dragons and such) have a favorite artist? We all know about Boris Vallejo, but what others do you know? I have a couple of prints from Robin Wood. She did the original jacket art for Ann McCaffrey's "Dragon Riders of Pern". What I have the most work of (prints, not originals) is from Ruth Thompson. She does beautiful dragons, but that isn't all she has done. Her rendition of the Archangel Michael has been done into a statue by the Franklin Mint. I have other artists that I favor, but by far Ruth Thompson is my favorite. I'd post a picture of one of her works, but I don't have the right to do so. | | | | | | | | | | Get Cultured For Less We regularly showcase discounts on galleries, museums& more. | | Yes, Frank does do some fantastic (pun intended) work. What did you think of the work of the Hildebrandt brothers? They did the original jacket art for "The Sword of Shannara."However, what they are best known for is their work for "Star Wars: A New Hope." | | | | elizabethbathory (549)

| | Thanks for the best response! I haven't read Sword of Shannara, but I seem to remember the cover being a castle, far in the distance, at the top of a mountain range, though that may be a differnt cover from the one you've seen. At any rate, it's beautiful. They are masters of their craft, Greg and Tim. | | | | kamalila (133)

| | That's a different book in the series. The Shannara series is huge. No, the first book has an elf, a human in Robin Hood like clothing, and a few others, standing at the top of some stairs inside a castle. It has the Hildebrandt's classic brightness. The first printing also had a fold-out in the middle of the whole group (the fellowship, if you will) of those that went in search of the Sword of Shannara. | | | | | | kamalila (133)

| | Yup, that's it. I don't know if you read this genre of literature. Terry Brooks became famous from this book. As I said, the complete series is huge, and it is growing. His latest book ties together another series and the Shanara series. I haven't read it yet, but my husband couldn't put it down until he had finished it. | | | | | | | Get Cultured For Less We regularly showcase discounts on galleries, museums & more.
