Have you seen this movie? It stars Steve Martin who I love dearly, he seems to always make me laugh but this movie is different than most of Steve's movies. He's still funny in parts but honestly this is one of the rare movies that I think we see another side of Steve Martin - serious. It's a simple twist of fate that brings two people together, Steve Martin and an infant girl which he ends up raising. I don't want to give too much information and spoil for you if you haven't seen the movie but I do highly recommend it. If you have seen this movie what did you think of it? Different for Steve Martin? Have you seen other movies with actors or actresses who seemed almost out of character from the parts they usually play?

I have not seen this movie; I've never even heard of it, and I love Steve Martin. I'm so glad I came across your post, I am adding movies to my netflix account and I can add this one! perfect timing:) I love his serious acting, he is actually a very good drama actor. I can't wait to get "A Simple Twist of Fate". Thanks for the reccommendation!

I can't think of any other dramas I've seen Steve Martin in - am going to have to check into that myself because once I get past the thinking every word out of his mouth is going to be funny he really is very good.

I've seen him in several drama roles, such as Shop Girl. Which is the only one I can remember the name of right now, as the others are older movies. Sorry I can't name them for you. He also writes dramatic screen-plays I believe. Go Steve!

I'm a real Steve Martin fan to begin with and I have to admit I feel in love with this movie and there were parts that made me cry a bit--I don't really think it was too out of character for S. Martin to play in...another great movie I thought of his, and not well known..did you ever see L.A. Story...just love that too..just loved the ending and the music...it's how I discovered the music of Enya---As far as other actors playing roles that are out of character..I love Viggo Mortensen..in fact I kid people and say he's my future husband..LOL..he usually plays very heavy duty roles but one that was out of character and had a tad of humor..at least for him... was Hildago--see it?

Maybe it's just one of my favorite Martin movies is "The Jerk" I laugh and laugh all through that movie - no matter how many times I see it. In Twist of Fate there are funny parts but there just seem to be so many places I cry, it just rips my heart out in several spots.

Yes I have seen this movie. I loved it. It was sad when the real father tried to take her. But the ending was great! I also liked father of the bride.

I watched yesterday following your recommendation and thanks to all of you that posted the story after I read the original posting. It's indeed a must-see movie a good drama with many funny moments, as he put it "will be decisively unfunny". It reminds me Bill Murray in "Lost In Translation".
