Sleep is a protective function which permits the repair and recovery of tissues after activity. Living and learning and more positive when one has sufficient sleep and rest. Adequate sleep and regular rest periods are essential for active two-to-six-years-olds. This age level sleeps an average of eleven out of twenty-four hours. It is difficult to judge how much sleep is enough. Most parents make their own decisions by how cheerful their children are, whether they can get up easily in the morning, how actively they play, their posture, skin, colour, etc. It has been found that a specified bedtime and a regular, pleasant ritual for going to sleep help considerably. Children who are engaged in a full day of exciting physically activity sometimes find it difficult to accept the notion of going to sleep. They resist bedtime by making demands a drink of water, another hug.
