| Anniversary of Assasination  | | | |  Does anybody out there besides me realize that this past Good Friday marked the 142nd anniversary of the assassination of the 16th President of the United States? April 14, 1865 John Wilkes Booth murdered Abraham Lincoln who was at the peak of his popularity. While there are many who may not like him or his methods, no one can deny that despite his failings, it was Abraham Lincoln who saved the union of the United States of America.
No flesh and blood hero is without faults and certainly Lincoln had them. But even after all these years, his love for America as a glorious and unified nation shines through. At least I think so, but I am a big girl.

| |  I didn't know that. I was always terrible at history and only became interested in it as an adult. I also think it would help if they celebrated Lincoln's birthday like they used to when I was little. Then it changed to "President's Day" and now, my children don't have a day off school for Washington's birthday or Lincoln's. America has had some wonderful presidents that clearly loved this country dearly, despite their oh-so-human flaws.
