What's the easiest way to transfer 8mm tapes into WMV (Windows Media Video)

I have about a dozen 8mm tapes with lots of family videos, cars, trips and other fun stuff that I would like to transfer/convert into WMV format.(Some will go on YouTube) But I'm cheap and I don't want to pay a service to do that...
