Adding pic to profile

Ok, I have searched the site over and I can't figure out how to replace the little green and white icon with a pic I like. I uploaded the pic but now what??? Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks

I have been uploading pictures with my posts but I notice they go under my post not next to my post like most peoples. Why is this? How do I get them to go next to the post?
