Best friends and best enemy

It is always compared that our best friends are our best enemy. Do you have this kind of friend too? I guess it would be better to keep a best friend with an opposite attitude to complement your differences.

Why "best friend" is so much a "best enemy"? Why not just cut you in peace if it does not fit? Why do so many "best friends" as the enemy?
