Spring is on its way. Today when I went outside I saw my first daffodil of spring. I know it’s a few weeks until March 21, nevertheless daffodils are the harbingers of spring, and at least two daffodils are in bloom. I saw a...

That time of the year. I start feeding the fall and winter birds. I put out the whole unsalted peanuts on the deck.
My two favorite birds are the Blue Jays and the Cardinals and the Mourning Doves. I always remember the phone...

As we came back from having Bob get diagnosed with Covid, we had a moment of entertainment.
The house next door is basically abandoned. Lots of overgrown greenery. It is a good habitat for birds and beasts.
When we pulled into...

Birds are flocking to my deck feeder again. They enjoy the sunflower seeds and peanuts. Cardinals visit early and late, before and after the crowd.
Blue Jays (in the photo) are usually the second to arrive. Grackles and other...

While checking the mail of my neighbor today, I took more photos.
He has such a big garden in the front, side and back of his home, there is always something to see.
This Cardinal flag has been in his wife's garden many years....

Was looking out the patio doors just now, looking for birds. Had my phone in my hand. And all of a sudden a male cardinal landed in the yard, beside a pine tree.
I snapped some photos, but not very good with my phone so far away....

Another cold and cloudy and day here. But the birds don't mind. Was watching from inside at the birds earlier. Snapped this photo of a female cardinal on the deck.
She found the peanuts I hid for her under a deck chair. The blue...

Woke up to snow falling today. It is still falling now. Lots of birds in the backyard. Have been watching and photographing all day.
The red male cardinal is a favorite to see in the snow. Always reminds me of my Dad. His...

Was bird watching as I always do today. It seems the colder it gets, the more backyard birds I see.
Walked out on the deck for a few minutes, all bundled up, and saw a pair of cardinals.
The female flew when I opened the door....

I wrote about finding a cardinal nest in my yard on 6-02-2020 (link below).
The eggs are incubated 11-13 days by the female.
So you know what that means, right? Baby cardinals will be born any day now.
I am trying not to get...

Was out walking around in the yard just now. I took a peek at the cardinal nest of babies. All gone! The nest is empty.
Maybe I was not correct on the age of the babies when I discovered them earlier this week.
They usually...

My day has been made. I managed to get a photo of a male cardinal. The father to the eggs I found a few days ago.
He was perched on a limb in my sycamore tree. The nest is close by. In a few days the babies will be flying...

Was out walking around yesterday in the yard. I kept watching the male and female cardinals. I was determined to find their nest. They are very elusive and hard to get close to.
I had my phone in my pocket in case I found the...

Glad to see the birds are visiting the peanuts in the bird feeder. I just filled it up yesterday and all gone today. I hear the blue jays announcing their arrival. They are beautiful but very loud.
I need to get sunflower seeds...

Have always heard if you get a visit from a cardinal, it could be from a lost loved one. Maybe that is true. But in this case, the male cardinal was enjoying the sunflower seeds in the feeder. You can tell the male from the female...

This year I have more birds in my backyard than usual. Not sure why, unless it is because I fed them through the winter. I have read that if you do that, they will return in the spring to raise their families.
Apparently that is...

Sprinkled a few sunflower seeds out on the deck this morning. I had to take the feeder away. When the bluebirds arrive they do not need other birds in their way. I am having a hard enough time getting the sparrows out of the...
