My toddler just turned 3 yesterday and she got cash gifts from relatives when they sent her cards. Was thinking of just putting it on her savings account but usually the note on the cards were like..."use this money to get her...

Is it ok for a couple to request a cash gift? Should they do this on the invitation or by word of mouth? Is it bad manners/etiquette?
