Intellectual Constipation

This is a piece I called, Intellectual Constipation. I replaced the rock where the Thinker is seated with a toilet. And gave him a book to read: "Catcher in The Rye"(which is my all-time favorite book), while pondering the great mysteries of the universe. This is one of my weird but favorite pastime: reading while taking a crap.

Mr. Antolini

Not sure if anyone has ever posted a discussion like this, but do you think that Mr. Antolini is a creepy molestor, or just an affectionate teacher? I'm referring to the instance where Holden shows...

What are the worst books you've finished?

What are the worst books that you've actually managed to finish? For me it would probably be Eragon, as I thought the plot was extremely overused and ill-defined. In general though, I don't...

The Catcher in the Rye

So I was bored this break, and just finished reading this book. I feel like I missed a lot of the meaning, and was hoping someone could help me out. It seems to me to be just a story of someone...

On New Years Day. But he stayed in hiding. He has reclusive nature. He has not published an original work since 1965 and has not been interviewed since 1980. Do you think we will hear or see anything...

Catcher in the Rye, Is this book redemptive?

Slightly. Kind of like Samuel Beckett, the redemption is so small and you have to fight to look hard for it. But when you find it, you feel it. This piece is a classic, no doubt, and many folks have...

All right, folks, time to confess!

I absolutely hated the book Catcher in the Rye. I don't understand why it's a classic. I thought it was inane and there was nothing rebellious or interesting about Holden Caulfield. He was a brat!...
