Seat, a cheaper version of VW or a standalone brand ?

I own a Seat Cordoba since 2006, 150 000 km right now, without major problems. Indeed all the parts are from VW group and coast less than a VW same class but it doesn't feel cheaper, good quality of materials, way better design...
