Why is one rapist better than the other?

From reading other threads and just watching the way Days is playing out, why is that one person who is rapist is the town crook and the other is now being accepted by some other parties, particularly the one who got raped....

to discuss the episodes daily. Yesterdays. Ha!! Sami had to do the deed with EJ Wells in order to save Lucas!! Now that Sami is sort of "good" I sort of felt sorry for her!!
