In case you’re wondering what the photo shows, it’s the back of one of the Akha women’s headdresses. The stitching and embroidery are all done by hand. Such a lot of work must go into these things.
The Akhas live in the very...

I’ve been on a run of repairing and upcycling things, but this is the last one for now.
Since plastic bags have fallen out of favour, plenty of organisations have been using cotton or canvas bags instead, thinking that they are...

Another thing I had been meaning to do for ages was to come up with a solution to our ‘chopstick problem’. Most of our meals are eaten with a knife and fork in the traditional British way, but if we make Chinese or Japanese food I...

This is a quilt with a story.
A local man embroiders for his mental health. It began when he was little more than a teenager and was involved in a serious automobile accident.
Six years ago he and his mother decided to turn one...

Two weeks ago we headed to Ontario to visit the children and grandchildren.
Who could resist stopping at a quilt shop along the way and picking up a kit for another Quilter's Trek block.
Blue is my favourite colour. This block...

It's taken almost a year, from start to finish.
Sometimes I was tempted to put it aside, and come back to it at a later date.
I persevered! It travelled with me from coast to coast. My hands were kept busy as I stitched away....

This is the block that I changed the most.
The nativity scene....the Angel, the drum, the poinsettia and the sled are all my own.
Then the original title no longer was meaningful.....the banner in the pattern said...."wooly...

The second winter block was shared this morning early.
The out door temperature was -21°C.
Thank goodness we didn't get what Newfoundland experienced.
My post either didn't post...or was deleted.
We will try to post the photo...

While I'm sharing the last autumn block, I look out of my window and see winter.
It snowed all day. Probably almost 6 inches (15cm) of fluffy white stuff.
Funny though, the storm they keep warning us about isn't supposed to...

We did experience some nasty weather. (Hubby isn't happy about the ice on the driveway!)
Fortunately our power never waivered so we weren't inconvenienced. Church was cancelled and I think everyone in our community hunkered...

With yoyoing temperatures we are under a weather advisory.
Nova Scotia has their emergency response team set up and spread around the province.
New Brunswick has a similar team and response in the works.
We have been told to be...

It's a cold morning in the Maritimes.
A brisk breeze is blowing, so I opted to use the dryer for my laundry this morning.
The sunshine is welcome. A couple of puffy while clouds in a brilliant blue sky give the illusion of...

When I started this quilt last spring, the spring blocks seemed very appropriate. Initially I pieced the block and added the elements. Glue and pins and here and there just a stitch to hold something in place.
After adding the...

This quilt was started back in the spring of 2019. The goal was to finish the handwork (pre-assembly) while we were travelling across the continent.
I did do a lot of the applique and embroidery before and during our travels,...
