I have trouble remembering how to set shutter and aperture. I know that shutter the higher the number the faster and aperture the bigger the number the smaller the opening but when I am outside I don't have a clue the best way to...

F-Stops and Aperture?

I am an amatur photographer. I recenty bought this wonderful digital camera. Its set up to where I can change the F-stops and Aperture. What exactly are F-stops and Aperture? What do they do? Any help would be wonderful, thanks.
