I was asked the other day if I could share a recipe which I was pleased to do. The recipe was for scones and I realised that I don't actually bother with a recipe for them.
Depending on how many I want to make, I might several...

Costco had to recall its Kirkland butter because it did not have on its packaging that it contains milk. Apparently including milk in the ingredients list is not enough. A product has to have the phrase “contains milk.” I wonder...

I've been all over the place, trying to find one-a-day vitamins without dye or artificial flavoring. Malto-dextrin is a sweetener that's very common in vitamin supplements.
Why? I really don't know why they add harmful...

Has anyone had Brunswick Stew? My Tom has wanted to make it for a long time, and finally today he made it. It was okay, but he put in a BBQ sauce that was a little sweet. Added vinegar, but still a little sweet. I had never...

My collection of herbs and spices long ago outgrew one of those cute little racks. There are lots of other styles and designs available, many of which are really appealing and have nice features such as rotating in clever ways or...

I have a habit of buying ingredients, then not using them. I had read a really easy recipe for peanut butter pie. I have had the ingredients on hand for Christmas.
I finally made the peanut butter pie, and I will certainly do it...

The last few weeks have been so ridiculously mild that it was far more like September. I was lulled into a false sense of security. I picked the last few tomatoes in November! This is unheard of!
So I foolishly thought I didn’t...

For a while now I have been using half-and-half for my coffee instead of milk. I noticed that regular half-and-half I usually buy has sodium citrate and disodium phosphate in the ingredients. And other non-organic brands have that...

I wrote a while ago about my chilli pepper harvest
https://www.mylot.com/post/3530947/how-to-store-chillies
I looked at things to do with chillies and one thing I found was a recipe for sweet chilli jam, so I thought I would try...

I wrote before about my experimental nasturtium leaf soup
https://www.mylot.com/post/3531321/a-kitchen-experiment.
That was OK, but I wasn’t really keen enough to make it again. But then I started to wonder whether the flavour...

All my spices and dried herbs are in little jars in the top drawer of one of the kitchen units. If I put them on a shelf in one of the cupboards they would take up too much room and be too hard to see, and if they were just on the...

Still on the subject of grapes, another thing I wanted to try was spiced pickled grapes. I rather liked the look of this recipe and saved it years ago from a magazine, probably Country Living. But I wasn’t keen enough to actually...

In my series of kitchen experiments the next thing I tried was grape jam.
I made grape jelly before and it was OK, but as a family it seems we prefer jam so I thought I would try that for a change.
I found a recipe online and...

Apart from an extensive nasturtium patch, the other thing we have a lot of at the moment is grapes. My partner’s parents gave us a seedless grapevine as a house-warming present when we moved here and it seems to like its home....

What’s your preferred way to store or preserve chilli peppers?
I always grow a few chilli plants and they normally produce more than enough fruits to keep us going for a year or more. The varieties vary, depending on what I have...

My partner’s mum brought us a bag of quinces when they visited a couple of weeks ago. They have been hanging around since then so I finally bit the bullet last night. I had been putting it off because quinces are notoriously hard...

@sharonelton this is for you, in case you want to make some with your lonely lemon!
I love lemon curd. When I was a child my great aunt used to visit and bring some with her and it was so delicious, I can remember helping myself...
