Short rain seasons are often accompanied by white edible insects that come from underground nests or anthills. Some come during the day, others at dusk, others around midnight and some in the wee hours of the morning. Each type...

I was walking across a field when I noticed a bit of frayed binder twine stuck there among the grass. Obviously it had been left behind when the farmer baled hay earlier in the summer. I picked it up because I didn’t want a cow or...

Sometimes you just don't expect certain things, and of course, they take you by surprise a little bit.
Like when you're dead heading your marigold plants and something moves that shouldn't.
I pulled back a bit, not knowing what...

So you may remember that we had problems with wasps and a very nice man came earlier in the week and squirted some puffy stuff on them. We hadn't had a problem since. We had to leave to cupboard closed for a certain length of...

I must admit that I get squeamish at the thought, but I was tempted to hold this one - possibly a praying mantis in the garden. The kids didn't hesitate at all though - they gently got it to climb onto a leaf and tipped it slowly...

We are having a glorious few days just now and gardens and roadsides everywhere are filled with blossom, scenting the air.
But something is badly wrong.
Where are all the bees?
Last year and this year there has been a...

Out and about on my travels, in the City, I ended up by the Millennium Bridge and near a small garden, on the Thames Embankment. I found an insect hotel.
Designed for single insects, like solitary bees and other creepy crawlies....

Well, I hope they have had their fun and a good life, but it's over for those yellow jackets in my yard today that attacked me a few days ago when I mowed over their nest.
Rottler Pest Solutions will be arriving today at 12:15...

I am sure there will be some here who will jump up and down gleefully, "Well that serves that loudmouth, cantankerous fool right!" Hey, enjoy your moment. I won't deny it to you or think any less of you for it either.
You see,...

A small spider didn't have a chance to survive, even one day. He had built a web across the corner of our bathtub.
I wanted to take a morning shower, to freshen up a bit. Well, this spider web was something crazy that I've never...

I love forests. I love to walk in the forests. There are different sounds of birds and insects which brings us close to nature. I can see woodpeckers, rabbits, cricket, nightingales which i hardly see in the urbanized places.

Ordinarily, whenever I find a spider inside the house, I pick it up with a paper towel and throw it outdoors. Well, in this case I didn't even bother. This spider was doomed!
The daring little devil had built a web from my...

I read an article today. I was so stunned to learn this weirdest fact about Japan. In this country, they have some vending machines that sell insects. Regardless, if I have the chance, I would want to see them for myself and visit...

48% of bee colonies were lost in the last year ending April 1, 2023. Parasites, pesticides, starvation and climate change were the main reasons for the losses. A 21% loss over winter is acceptable; but it was much higher this...
