How to properly use a search engine for a particular key word?

Whenever I click on the search button of a search engine for a particular key word, I find a large number of sites. Automatically I am at a loss to select the most appropriate site. Is there any way to find out which of the sites...

sometimes I post a discussions here but then I can see there are similiar ones here on Mylot,it's not necessary for me to start a similiar discussion,so do you know if we have ways to search here on Mylot? Happy Mylotting
