Not taking the short cuts in my music editing program

I have a couple of cds I put on my computer, done as is, that is the man who record for the church concerts did not take all the parts where they walk up to the stage out. So I figured I would wait until I have a music editing...

Does anyone know of a good (free) music editing application? Something where you can see the soundwaves so as I can edit the ums and ahs out of recorded voice files of .wavs and .mp3s

Or any other studio software users! I use digital performer and motu 828mkII for recording and music editing! My old software was Cubase vst 32 but their upgrades.... How about you?
