Mylot level question?

I searched the site, but I can't seem to find my answer. What is the levels about? Do they serve a purpose? Also how do you level up? I seem to be having trouble understanding the purpose of levels.

hey guys, I have a few questions about mylot ratings...why is may rating so low first of all? I've always tried to be helpful on here but i guess people aren't rating my responses well?? and secondly, does this affect my earnings...
