How do you get a horse to canter? I find it very difficult and usually when i try to make it go it just breaks of into a very fast trot.

there are horses around my home,but i have never ridden one,howabout you?have you ever seen a real horse?or even petting her/he?may be someone even rode one,what's th feeling? i hope i would ride a horse one day.
