Do you keep DVDs and CD-ROM's even after they get scratched and can't be used?

Whenever I pay a lot of money for a DVD or CD-ROM, I have trouble throwing it out, once it becomes scratched up and unusable. For some reason, I keep holding out hope that they will invent a way to "fix" the scratches. Not sure...

I borrow movies from the library and every once in a while we will get a movie that has been scratched so bad or has a fingerprint big enough to figure out who left it. What is on their hands when these people are touching the...
