why is youtube videos in flv format.???/

its kinda amusing that we are having many video formats like AVI,DAT,MP4 and all that .but the videos on youtube are only in flv format .... Is there any specific reason for this???

Its been few days here since youtube is not loading its pages. The contents are displayed and when we click to watch it stops loading. I am from delhi (India) is it same everywhere or is it in my network only. I love watching...
