Never wear white shoes between Labor Day and Memorial Day

I was taught this from basically birth. We were never allowed to wear white shoes, pants or dresses before Memorial Day(5/28/07) or after Labor Day (9/03/07). The exception was always Easter Sunday. I don't know where this...
