I want to make movies as I used to make in Xp but I cannot find out Windows Movie Maker in Windows 7? what is free alternative for windows Movie maker?

Alright...I made a Video on my computer, and I put it onto a CD-R for my family to watch on Christmas... The CD plays on the computer but NOT in a DVD player... can someone explain to me how to do this in layman's terms PLEASE??...
