Barong Tagalog is the wear in the Philippines
When we were colonized by Spaniards, they required all Filipinos to wear a dress that is transparent (impossible to hide weapons inside), tucked out (to mark the inferior status of the native), and no pockets (to prevent thievery). As an act of resistance, women those days heavily hand-embroidered the front of the barong. It was only during President Quezon when the barong was proclaimed as the national dress. Now, very expensive barongs made of hand-woven pina and jusi are worn on wedding and other formal occassions. Weddings are never complete without a barong for the groom.
