My beautiful little degus. Degus originate from Chile in South America and are very social pets. They make lovely weeping noises and have a pretty black tuft at the end of their tail. This can come of if you hold their tail too tightly. They have to be fed a very strict diet as they are intolerant to sugar, and if fed too many sugary foods can die early or develop diabetes. They love to climb and make entertaining pets.
This is my Degus called Sonny, they are chillean natives and can live for up to eight years. They are sociable animals and like to live in groups of two or more. They have to exercise daily as in the wild they can run up to two miles per day. They are very squirrel like apart from they don't have a bushy tail. Their tails however can get detached from their body if pulled, this is a release mechanism which happens if they get caught by another animal in the wild. Now on the increase as popular pets here in the UK
