Heroes 5 - Dungeon Creatures: Hydra

Hydras are another race of underground creatures tamed and enslaved by the Dark Elves. Their origins are unknown, although they seem to be related to the Dragons in spite of their very limited intelligence and lack of magic power. However, Hydras are incredibly strong, and their multiple heads can strike simultaneously at different opponents. Aside from Hit Points and great abilities, the Hydra is a below average level 5 creature statistically, as much as it pains me to say so. While speed is acceptable, considering its size, initiative, attack, defense and damage are all sub-par. Haste and Teleport are two spells you should hope turn up in the Mage Guild. It is also extraordinarily expensive, like most other Dungeon creatures.

Fortress creatures - Hydra

Hydra Health: 175 Attack: 16 Shots: none Movement: ground 2200 gold (1) Hex size: 2 Defence: 18 Dmg: 25-45 Spd: 5 (slow) Special: attacks all adjacent hexes, no enemy retaliation. Costs no special resources and the special abbility is one of the greatest: hydras attack all 8 hexes around them without fear of retaliation! Speed is appaling for a level 7 creature, but if you use hydras strategically, they can cause more damage than even angels: always position hydras to touch as much enemies as possible at once. When hydras retaliate, they do the same 8-hex attack, this way enemy troop can cause damage to a whole group of his by attacking hydras. Use spells like bless, haste, teleport and counterstrike.

Heroes 1: Warlock Creatures - Hydra

Hydra may be big and blue and rather adorable for some people, but it is very expensive, costing more gold than Paladin, Cyclops and Genie. The hit points are ridiculously high, while defence, attack and damage are reasonable for level 5. Hydra's special ability is amazing - it attacks all enemies that stand around its two hex body at once and no one can retaliate! So in making one attack Hydra can make two, three, four or even five attacks! When one of the surrounding enemies attacks and Hydra retaliates, the retaliation will also damage all surrounding enemies! So positioning Hydras to attack multiple enemies is crucial. Too good, right? Now the drawback. Slow speed means Hydras slow down your hero and take very long time to crawl towards enemies. And Warlock doesn't exactly have many shooters for Hydras to defend. The most devastating combination are Hydras and Teleport spell. Imagine having a pack of enemy Hydras materialise inside your castle walls, making your walls your own deadly prison. The Hydras are hard to utilise fully, but when you succeed, it is very satisfying. If you have any Dragons to recruit, I recommend you save money for a Dragon instead of buying Hydras, due to Dragon's high versatility.

Heroes 2 - Warlock creatures: Hydra

Health points: 75 Attack: 8 Defense: 9 Damage: 6-12 Speed: 2 (very slow) Cost: 800 Special: attacks all adjacent enemies. Hydra. Really slows down your hero, but that's ok with garrisoning. 2-hex-sized - that's 8 hexes attacked at once! Excellent against non-shooters.

Heroes 4 - Chaos/ Asylum Creatures: Hydra

Hydra Health: 250 Damage: 28-60 Population: 2 4000 Gold + 2 Mercury Shots: N/A Attack: 30 RangeAtt: N/A Defence: 26 RangeDef: 26 Mana: N/A Speed: 6 Movement: 7 AdvMove: 21 Killing XP: 617 A hydra can strike at all surrounding units at the same time, and because they strike with such blinding speed their enemies cannot retaliate. Comments: The Hydra deals the most damage in the game when attacking multiple units (300+), and also has the no retaliation ability. While it has an average attack and defense rating, its damage and HP make up for those discrepancies. It is rather slow on the adventure map when compared to the Black Dragon and other level 4 creatures.
