darth_eletius Both chkdsk /r and defrag are good ideas to do periodically, but only chkdsk has any chance of recovering space.

lynnemg When I had that memory problem with my computer, I actually had to go into it and do a complete favtory restore. Then, I had to go through and download all of the programs that I had on it. You may just have to go to the sites and download your sofware again....

myskina well . i suggest you close system restore , system hibernation , and the share and the distances . so you can cut off a very huge spaces in your C/: . or make some system clean batch files . can make your system such like fly .

darth_eletius I just read mirage108's comment, and it is true that you want to leave a system restore partition alone entirely. But that is not the only situation that computers come with partitioned hard drives.

lhenax15 You can install the windows media player using windows XP cd, if that is your O.S. If it does not work,you can repair your windows also using the windows XP cd. If you do not know how, you can ask an assistance from your nearby computer shop. Hope i can help....
