John Welford It was simply the references to places in the UK that are not well-known anywhere else - such as Eye in Suffolk and Havant in Hampshire!

As a keen observer of the American political scene - from across the Pond - I am struck by what seems to be a strange contradiction from the Trump camp. On the one hand, the former President, as part of his campaign to convince...

John Welford @porwest I think you will find that the Oxford AstraZenica vaccine has been fully approved and tested - this is the one that most people in the UK have had.

John Welford @everwonderwhy One problem with all these arguments based on religious interpretations is that they tend to look at only one aspect of an issue and not consider the "big picture" of the overall effect of an action or decision. Many moral positions founder...

John Welford @everwonderwhy I have had a look, as you suggest. It appears that the Constitutional argument comes down to objections from a religious perspective, and the somewhat bizarre notion that you cannot do anything as a government if it offends against someone's...

John Welford @everwonderwhy I am British, therefore I have not been educated in the intricacies of the US Constitution and was merely asking for clarification from someone who is better informed. I would assume that anyone claiming a contravention of the Constitution would...

John Welford @topffer I have to disagree with you re. seat belts. If a rear seat passenger is not wearing a belt, they can cause severe injury or death to a front seat passenger due to being thrown forward with great force in a collision. The same applies to objects being...

John Welford The point is that vaccination cuts the prevalence and spread of the disease, even if there is not a 100% guarantee that any one person will not either suffer from it or pass it on. There is also the undoubted fact that vaccination reduces the severity of any...

John Welford That's interesting. However, it would be impossible for anyone to exercise a copyright under such circumstances, because nobody could ever tell which words were generated by the AI and which by the human poet. The text generated by the AI can never be repeated...

John Welford In a word - No! This is not a matter of individual choice, it is a matter of whole communities acting together to protect the most vulnerable among them. I find it amazing that people can be so self-centred that they do not see things that way. There are many...

John Welford I think it boils down to how you make use of the added input. I have found that the AI will throw words together in ways that I would not have thought of myself - but then so do people one might meet and talk to, or they might write in books, newspapers, etc....

John Welford @Vikingswest1 OK - let's look at this another way. Many artists these days use computer programs to generate results - such as CGI, for example. Another example is the production of images based on fractals. They set the parameters, enter them to the...
