Learning a new language

I noticed that one of my favorite things to do is to learn a new language. But I don't have a reason for it. If you have a second language can you tell me why you know it or why you chose to learn it?

May I learn English as my second language because in China it's a compulsory course in school. It's really practical.And there is always somthing surprise you when you learn something new.
