I can not import images from my files I just get "Cannot import invalid image" how do I correct this problem

pkicker I can clean all images, For some reason I can't clean images scanned from my scanner, yet some photos will be accepted and 3d images i scan(like objects wont be accepted even though I have them listed as "JPEG".
