Are you a bread reacher?

With packaged bread, do you reach down the bag to the third of fourth piece - or do you take from the top?
There is a member in my family who has an aversion to the heals of the loaf and apparently the first couple slices after that... they always reach down to about midway in the package, squishing the pieces infront of the one they've decided was suitable.

I don't particularly care for bread, so it must be soft & fresh. With that in mind.. I am a reacher..I do however normally remove the first four slices and then just put them back, so therefore, I am not a squisher !!

My brother-in-law lives with us he is still able to get his own breakfast beause all he ever wants is toast or a slice of bread with honey. He always takes the heel of the bread and whatever comes next. My husband just takes what comes, he eats anything. I have been quilty of reaching down the bread bag to get the better pieces when I make sandwiches for lunch. There's nothing worse than trying to make a sandwich with one small slice of bread and one biggar slice of bread. If I'm just making myself a couple pieces of toast then I just take what comes up.

I don't like heels, but haven't meet anyone that took slices midway in a loaf. Hope they don't move in to my home, as don't like squished bread. I'm really picky about the appearance and smell of the bead, as it must look good and make me hungry.

I will admit, I pass up the heal. I've never cared for them but I always leave them in the package even knowing that no one in my family will eat it. I do this to leave that end as a protection for the rest of the loaf and there have been a few times when we've gotten to the end of the loaf, meaning there were only 2 heals left, and out of desperation have eaten the heals.

Honestly, I don't have the opportunity to get homemade bread very often but when I do I am thrilled - as long as it's not the heel :(

there's one in my family --- me. :)
it's not really an aversion to the first and last piece of the loaf bread. however, the two pieces are quite smaller than the rest. so when i'm making a sandwhich, i prefer to have two pieces of almost the same size, usually the 3rd slice of the loaf onwards would do me fine. :)

Yes, that seems to be the pattern at our home too. Of course, when I get to the bread both heels are usually all that is left. So if I'm desperate for a sandwich or didn't have my heart set on the fluffy center pieces... I go ahead and use them, doesn't bother me a bit. If I'm not in the mood for the heels, I'll throw them into a ziplock bag collection of heels in the freezer to use towards stuffing later on. My husband hates the heels and will go without bread until a new loaf if purchased. To me, bread is bread. My kids picked up on my husband reaching down to the 3rd and 4th pieces and avoiding the heels, so they've followed his example.

I love the yummy crusty end bits of a bread loaf!!! If i do any bread reaching it's usually to tyr and reach down for the seconf crusty end bit after i've eaten the first one! Someones i will reah for the next slice in line if the one above looksd a bit squished, broken or had a hole (like where air was when being baked) in it.

I am not really a bread eater. We always have bread in the house but I am not the one eating it. Probably I can't find anything I like to go with it.

my brother does this-and i'd like to crown him LOL
a lot of times he'll spill the bread on the floor while he's reaching.
..and then leaves the package open.
urgh! brothers..
