Crazy Quilts?

I've been thinking about sewing together a quilt cause thats one of the easiest sewing projects that I can think of. A friend of mine made a crazy quilt with left over scraps that she had from other projects that she had done. Has anyone else ever made one of these? If you have, is there anything in particular that I need to know before I start. I'm a newbie when it comes to sewing so any suggestion or tips would be wonderful.

if you're planning on using any really light or movable to the touch fabric scraps, you might want to get some fusable interfacing to make the fabric more solid to be worked with.

I've heard that before. I haven't started it yet, but I'll probably get the thicker material to work with cause I know it does better. I've even heard of people making quilts out of old jeans and they were thick enough that they didn't have to add any quilting material in the middle just added the back. I think this would be another great quilt. Sewing jean by hand isn't that easy though.

They are cool looking. When I get one finished I'll try to post it. Crazy colors and patterns on fabrics that don't match other fabrics but thats the fun of it. Plus there is no real pattern for the quilt so its all crazy.

Sorry but I can't help you out here. I don't do quilting. I want to pick up knitting but I can't seem to get a hang of it just yet. I'll get there eventually.

I made one for my mother using pieces of my daughters baby clothes. Some of them had stains in spots and couldn't be sold. I cut them into 2 1/2 inch strips as best I could. I would cut out the appliques as big center squares and did a make shift "log cabin" looking quilt. I think the finished project was about 3 ft by 4ft... not really big but enough to cover her legs in her recliner. She loves it! Be careful though, baby clothes are often soft stretch fabrics that can be tricky to sew.

If I remember right, the original crazy quilts were made by the settlers. They were made of pieces of material from their clothing that wasn't wearable but there was still good material that they couldn't afford to waste. There are two ways to go with the quilt. First, you can use pieces of fabric from yur family's clothes that hey have either outgrown or is worn but still has good areas. Second is that you can buy fabrics to make it. I would check the remenant tables because the fabric is always discounted. If you use new fabrics, I strongly suggest that you prewash it so that it will shrink and also to wash the dust from the weaving and shipping out of the fabric. The dust will dull your needle and also your scissors or blade when you go to cut out the pieces. Try to make sure that the fabrics are close to the same weight. Other wise the quilt won't wear well.

sewing quilts is a pretty easy project to do i remember that my grandmother taught me to sew quilts when i was just a little girl i have never made a quilt just from left over fabric scraps but it is something that i would not mind doing i usually have alot of scraps left over and i do not like wasting them and just throwing them away i cannot think of anything specific that you would need to know before you start doing it i think it is as easy as it sounds good luck
