Biting

I have a lovely Birman male kitty that I estimate to be about 2 years old. I got him nearly a year ago from the pound with no know history or anything of the sort because he was brought in as a stray. It's very apparent to me that he has always been an indoor cat that was very used to being pampered. He is quite the diva. One of the things I love about him is that he is unnaturally sweet. Most cats seem to be a little spicy, or sassy if you will. My cat though, while being playful, is never sassy towards me. My only complaint is that he bites to show affection. I have tried ignoring him, lightly tapping him on the head, gently removing him from my lap and setting him on the floor, and other non abusive methods. Sadly, he still doesn't seem to "get it." He will still nuzzle my face, lick it, and then .....CHOMP! He has even bit me on my septum, which really hurts. My boyfriend stated the obvious of.. "Well, don't let him nuzzle you", which makes me really sad. Also, my kitty wants to nuzzle me so I feel bad for trying to discourage it. When I first got him it was really bad and he would bite my hands and face affectionately, but he was also teething. Now it's just the face. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas besides "don't nuzzle kitty."
