Washing the Dishes....

washing dishes - do you fill the sink or wash pan with water for rinsing - or do you rinse under running water?

When you wash dishes, do you fill the sink with water or do you use a dishpan? when you rinse do you rinse under running water or do you fill the sink (or dish pan) with water and just dunk to rinse? Do you let your dishes air dry in a drainer or lay them out on a towel? or do you prefer to dry them and put them away straight away? I fill a deep pan for washing the dishes in (we do not have a garbage disposal) I pour out the water onto the hedges outside - they seem to enjoy it. The dishes usually will sit in the drainer until the next time I do dishes when I will put them away.

My mom doesn't like it when I do the dishes at home, because I waste a lot of water just washing one plate. It's a pretty simple process really, I just grab one dirty plate, soak it in running water, wash it with soap (the water is still running), then I rinse it. I don't put a deep pan under the tap so I could collect the used water... too lazy to do that. (But apparently, not too lazy to use mylot!) Then I just lay them out on a towel until they dry, and then I put them back where they belong. But, like I said, my mom doesn't like me washing the dishes since I waste so much water. Plus I'm also bound to break at least one plate or one glass everytime I do it. My mom tells me it's just not worth the trouble.

that is funny. I have a daughter who does pretty much the same thing - I think she does it because she does not want to do them and is hoping someone will take over the task. She got her wishes and now is responsible to clean the toilets instead.

Actually I am a water waster. I run the water while washing and rinsing. If I don't use the dishwasher. I leave them to dry in a strainer in the other side of a double sink. I don't know if it is just out of rebellion to my mother that would fill the sink, wash on one side, rinse on the other, or what, but I just run the water the entire time. I also like very hot water, it makes me feel like the dishes are getting cleaner.

you must have an amazing hot water tank to do that! I have to fill up the sink for washing if I want to use hot water (which I do) and the water is good and hot when it comes out - but after a few moments it turns cold...if I ran the water for washing I would not have hot water for all the dishes.

well I live in an apartment building that uses a underground type heating w/water system for heat, I guess the same idea is used for the water heater because I never have a problem with dishes or showers losing heat.

It depend where i am, since now i am at my moms place and the water from the faucet has not a strong supply for some years now. I had to go outside to get water from the faucet since the faucet in the sink does not run. I wash the dishes in a dish pan or basin. I rinse them first to get the food debris out then soap them, glasses first, then the spoons and forks and then the plates. Rinse them till there no suds left in the same order glasses first. I air dry them too. After that i wash the cooking pans. At my other place, i wash the utensils under running water.

When I wash the dishes I will fill it up with warm water of course the detergent, let them soak for a while then I would use a brush or wash rag to wash it then I ran the water to rinse it off and let them dry.

I fill the sink with water and then rinse them under running water before placing them in the drainer. I don't dry them though unless I need something right away, usually a utensil or something. I usually put them away a couple of hours after I've washed them because I can't stand to see them standing in the drainer, and I like to wipe down the draining board under the drainer before the water has a chance to sit and go stale. I won't dry them unless I have to, because unless your dishtowel is clean, you're running a risk of transferring germs and bacteria onto your clean dishes.

I use an automatic dishwasher for most of the dishes in our home. Some items cannot be washed in a dishwasher and those items I wash by hand. I fill one side of the sink with hot, soapy water to wash these dishes. I then rinse them under running water in the other side of the sink and set them on the counter to air dry. I used to live in a house with one big sink instead of a divided sink. I hated doing the dishes then!

I am the dishwasher in the family so I am perfect to answer your question. I rinse under a running water. I also let my dishes air dry. It is better than using a towel. That is what I learned on my home Economics class.

I rinse my dishes with running water, it seems faster that way, although I know I waste a lot of water, but I find it more efficient. I also put them in a rack to air dry. I don't want to use a towel to dry them, I just have this thing about dust and dirt and bacterias, so I just let the plates sit in dishwashing rack to dry.

plates - dinner plates
it depends on where i am. there are times when the water is not strong enough so i have to save water. i put the dishes on a dish pan and wash everything there. but if i wash dishes and have a strong supply of water, i'd soap it first and rinse it under running water. i prefer doing it than using the dish pan. it consumes much of my time. after rinsing, i just leave the plates for air drying. no need to wipe them with towels or whatsoever.

I fill a dish pan with water as hot as my hands can stand, a good amount of dish soap. I generally wash almost all of them, starting with glasses and cups, then flat-ware, on to plates and bowls, finishing with pots and pans. My husband usually helps, he rinses them under running water, and puts them to drain dry. We put them away later.

I use both the dishpan and the water sink. All the plates will be placed on the pan and there goes the water every time I rinse them off. :)

i fill the sink, clean the dishes, put them in a sink rack and rinse them off, then put them in a counter rack to air dry. i usually put them away as soon as they dry, because my family uses so many the counter'd be full.

I use a dishpan in washing our dishes. I rinse them twice before I put them in the drainer. When it dries up, it is then that I put them to a sealed keeper.
