When I still live in the Philippines, I hid alot from the sun and when I go out I carry umbrella. But when I started staying here here in California for good, I have no choice but just use sunscreen and not to carry my umbrella anymore. I don't see people carry umbrella unless it's raining. I'm getting paranoid , they might laugh at me or tease me. Sometimes I even think of buying Japanese umbrella cause one time I visited this Flea market here and saw people( Americans/White)carrying a Japanese umbrella becuase it was summer time and it's so hot. I'm thinking maybethat's the only kind of umbrella that I can use when it's sunny so people won't laugh at me.

You do what you feel you need to do to protect yourself from the sun! I read in Natural cures they don't want you to know about that the 3 main ingredients in sunscreen are known cancer causers! So, use your umbrella and F everyone if they want to stare! You be safe the way you choose to be safe.

In irealdn we only use umbrellas when it is raining but that is because we dont get weather hot enough to have to use one when its warm. I was is in LA last year and we went to Chinatown, we saw alot of chinese people using umbrellas to keep the heat off them.

I live in an area of San Diego that is very diverse. I see people doing all kinds of things that most Americans don't do. Mostly, I see older women carrying umbrellas in the daytime. I know it's logical to me and don't think it's weird at all. But, a couple of times I did that and I got mocked. At the time, I was pretty young and impressionable, so I stopped. I wear a hat with a brim on it instead. It used to be very common for women to carry parasols until about about the 1920s, but it's out of style now. I think you should do what you see fit. If you feel out of place, then continue with the sunscreen or get a wide-brimmed hat. If you really like to use an umbrella, then do that.
