When your parents get too old to look after themselves what will you do?

My dad is a widower that lives alone. He isn't getting any younger although he isn't willing to admit that. I always stressed where he would live when he gets too old to look after himself. My brother and his family have offered him to live with them. I am relieved and hope he takes them up on the offer when he is ready. I can't imagine him in an old folks home. How sad and depressing. Then again would he be happier with people his own age? I'm hoping this is a long time off when he has to make the decision. Do you ever worry about what will happen to your elderly parents?

As long as there is money to take care of my parents, they will stay in their own home and we will get someone to come in and take care of them. I haven't talked to my brother about this though so he may want to just put them straight into a nursing home.

I would take look of them if they needed but I know that they prefer to go to a resthouse. I also think like them. I wouldn't like at all to go live with my children. I prefer to go to a good resthouse where I will have people like me whom I can stay and make friends.

I would take care of my parents unles they absolutely didn't want me to. They raised and took care of me most of my life. I feel i owe it to them. In the same sense though I don't expect my daughter to look after me because i don't want to put that burden on her, she has to be able to live her life and not worry about taking care of me.
